Half Moon Bay State Beach (FAC Approved)

Half Moon Bay State Beach (FAC Approved)

This FAC approved beach camping getaway is just a quick 30-mile cruise down HWY 1, along the iconic pacific coastline (which is a picturesque treat in and of itself). If it’s long walks on the beach you’re after, Half Moon Bay State Beach is comprised of 4 smaller white sand beaches that encompass about 3 miles of continuous sandy shoreline for your strolling pleasure. The Coastal Trail on the bluffs above the beach runs the length of the shoreline and is a great spot for sunset bike rides or dog walks. Hunker down for the night at Francis Beach Campground which has 52 campsites with picnic tables and fire rings, and all of them are the best place to catch the sunset in Half Moon Bay.

  • Surf, swim, boogie…it’s the Beach people! (Watch out for rip currents)
  • Cruise by the visitors center on a weekend to get educated about the history and culture of this coastal region
  • Go fishing for rockfish, pacific herring, or the elusive lingcod right from the beach
  • Make it a group affair and book the Sweetwood Group Campground which has room for up to 50 campers
  • Head over here during the spring or fall Gray Whale migration to catch a glimpse of these underwater giants
  • Head to nearby Pillar Point to see where the world famous Titans of Mavericks surf competition is annually held
  • Explore the tidepools at the Fitzgerald Marine Reserve
