Corona Heights - Hike Destination

Heads up - this year we're going to be highlighting some our our favorite hidden spots within the Bay Area. We're starting local this year because that's where we're based, but don't worry - this is only the beginning and we'll be expanding to other cities next year. Depending on who you are and what your outdoor lifestyle consists of, these highlighted spaces may be an area you haven't heard of, a place you've always wanted to check out, or a place you already frequent (if so, thumbs up).

First up is Corona Heights - a steep and hidden gem of an urban green space tucked behind Buena Vista Park. It is located in the Castro and Corona Heights neighborhoods of San Francisco, and offers some epic panoramic views of the city (*hint - this makes a great date spot at sunset...remember to pack the 6 pack).

  • Fenced in dog zone
  • Beautiful rock formations - the entirety of the park is underlain by Franciscan chert bedrockĀ with a stunning terra cotta red chert bedrock at the top
  • Panoramic views of San Francisco
  • Wildflowers (including mule's ear, Douglas iris, checkerbloom, California poppy)
  • Randall Museum (offering art and science programs, tours, and even beekeeping information!)
  • Beaver Street Wall (if you're a climber, you'll know what we're talking about)

Views of Bernal Heights, the Castro, downtown SF, and more from atop.

Striated rock formations are the coolest.

Wildflowers lead us down Corona Heights where we descend towards a tasty reward at The Mill:
