Camp Breakfast: Overnight Oats

Prepping for breakfast the night before is a prolific idea, isn’t it? We think so, and highly encourage this camp breakfast recipe as an ideal way to start the day. This recipe is simple and very adaptable – take your pick of nuts, seeds, and types of yogurt or milk to bring. With the combination of pistachios, orange, and cardamom you are guaranteed a great start to the day.

This is another awesome recipe brought to you by our friend Sara, an experienced SF chef / waffle guru. Sara is a firm believer that a little prep work before camping goes a long way, giving you more time to hang out by the morning fire and enjoy one (or two) cups of coffee.


Camp Breakfast: Overnight Oats


Prep Time: 15 minutes  

Serving Size: 2

Wet Mix Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 2/3 Greek yogurt
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. orange blossom water
  • ½ tsp. cardamom
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 tbsp. chopped crystalized ginger

Dry Mix Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1 tbsp. chia seeds
  • ¼ cup toasted large flake coconut

Garnish Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup chopped pistachios
  • ¼ cup toasted coconut
  • 2 tbsp. chopped crystalized ginger
  • 1 large orange

Equipment Check:

  • 1 8 oz. Mason jar
  • 1 16 oz. Mason jar
  • knife
  • spoon
  • measuring cups
  • 2 serving bowls

Steps to Success:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients together and pour into a 16 oz. mason jar.
  2. Measure the wet ingredients into an 8oz mason jar.
  3. The night before serving, pour the wet mix into the 16 oz. Mason jar containing the dry ingredients.
  4. Mix thoroughly with a spoon.
  5. Close the lid on the jar and let sit in the cooler overnight.
  6. The next morning slice up the orange and set them aside.
  7. Divide the oats into 2 bowls, and garnish with sliced orange, toasted coconut, ginger and pistachios.
  8. ENJOY!
