Alite: Fun Simple Outdoor Gear for Casual Camping

Steep Ravine

Nestled into the craggy coastline immediately off hwy route 1 are a cluster of ten of the most epic rustic cabins Northern California has to offer. The cabins at Steep Ravine are some of the most quested after accommodations in the Bay Area and for good reason. They’re perched on the scenic bluff at the bottom of a steep canyon and each one offers expansive panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and beaches below.

The allure doesn’t stop with the idyllic setting. Each cabin features a wood-burning stove, picnic table, sleeping platforms, and outdoor bbq. It’s a much appreciated balance of amenities and rustic charm that’ll keep you comfortable and entertained.

A stay at Steep Ravine is a surefire occasion to unplug from the world a bit and unwind. The wood-burning stove comes standard in each cabin and is the centerpiece that “really ties the room together, man.” The stoves are a perfect light source for playing games or enjoying your dinner, or for staying warm and cozy all night long. We like to end our nights roasting way too many marshmallows around this hearth.

If you are able to snag a reservation at the cabins or the adjacent tent campground, you’ll enjoy superior access to a variety of outdoor adventures and activities. A short walk from the cabin door will lead you down a path to Steep Ravine beach, a secluded driftwood strewn stretch of coast that is only accessible from the gated road to Steep ravine cabins and campground. This beach is available for day use to anyone, but since it’s at the bottom of the canyon you will often have it to yourself. A dreamy base for all your beach bumming, wave dancing, and driftwood fort-building endeavors.

Whether you’re into the climbing mountains, nature hikes, surfing, exploring tide pools, or relaxing at the beach, Steep Ravine has it all. The 50 + miles of mount Tam’s extensive trail system are at your immediate hiking and mountain biking disposal.
